Family Preparedness Plan

A family preparedness plan is a comprehensive plan that outlines how your family will respond to emergencies or disasters. Everyone should have a Family Preparedness Plan. While it is our hope that you never have to use it, having one in place can reduce the stress of the unexpected.

The UFW Foundation’s family preparedness plan can help anyone, regardless of immigration status. However, we have included additional advice for families who face other challenges because of their immigrant/mixed status.

The family preparedness plan will allow you to:
  • Have a household plan and authorize a trusted adult to access your accounts to manage your finances and obligations, pay for your travel, pay an immigration bond, etc. if you are unable to.
  • Have a childcare plan and secure a trusted adult to care for your children if you cannot. It includes emergency numbers, important contact information, a Caregiver’s Authorization Affidavit, and a file with important documents.
  • Know your rights. Everyone, regardless of their immigration status, has rights under the U.S. Constitution. Information and a Red Card asserting these rights are included in this packet.
  • Know your options for immigration relief. This packet includes information and resources to find trusted immigration legal help.
