The UFW Foundation’s Removal Defense Project represents and advocates for residents of the Central Valley facing removal proceedings before the immigration court. We believe that every immigrant facing the immigration court should be afforded their due process rights with dignity and respect.

Direct Legal Representation

Our team provides direct legal representation to detained and non-detained immigrants facing removal proceedings in California. We represent immigrants detained at the following detention facilities: Mesa Verde, Golden State Annex, Central Valley Annex, California City, and Adelanto. We represent non-detained immigrants in removal hearings in Fresno, Kern, Kings, Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus, Tulare and Ventura counties.

Advocacy

The Removal Defense Project works alongside local, regional, and state coalitions to advocate for policies that protect our communities from ICE enforcement, detention, and deportation.

Community Legal Education and Pro Se Assistance

UFW Foundation immigration legal staff provide removal defense clinics. Our offices offer monthly non-detained clinics for those currently seeking legal orientation and consultation. Through these orientations and clinics, immigrants and their families are informed about the process and rights before the immigration court and information on available defenses.

Our team provides limited pro se assistance to individuals and families navigating removal proceedings without representation. Services include assistance with asylum applications, work permits, change of address/venue, BIA appeals, information on preparing for upcoming court hearings, document translations, and more.

Given heightened ICE enforcement, we provide rapid response assistance and resources to immigrants facing ICE encounters. If someone you know has been impacted by immigration enforcement, please call your rapid response network.
