The U.S. Department of Labor just released a new AEWR (Adverse Effect Wage Rate) rule that slashes pay for hundreds of thousands of farm workers across the country.

This rule would cut wages by $5 to $7 an hour in key states like California, Washington, Georgia, New York, Florida, Texas, and Michigan — taking over $2.4 billion every year out of the pockets of the people who put food on America’s tables.

When farm worker wages go down, families suffer, and communities lose.

The new policy doesn’t just hurt the workers who harvest our food. It hurts every U.S. worker by driving down pay and giving corporate growers another handout, all while these same workers face extreme heat and dangerous working conditions.

Farm workers feed this nation through wildfires, heat waves, and emergency disasters such as the pandemic. They deserve fair pay, not pay cuts.

We, the undersigned, call on the U.S. Department of Labor to reverse the AEWR wage-cut rule immediately and protect the wages and dignity of the people who sustain our food supply.
