Vicky’s story reflects the reality of many female farm workers, who work long hours in physically demanding jobs while balancing family and other responsibilities
Vicky, South Georgia
Vicky has been a farm worker for over 20 years, picking peppers, cucumbers, blueberries, small cabbage, and baling pine straw in South Georgia. At home, she is a devoted wife and mother to eight children who adore her.
Within her community, Vicky is someone people trust and can count on for help. After a neighbor experienced a house fire, Vicky reached out to ask if they were okay, then went a step further by connecting them with the support and resources.
Recently, Vicky’s partner suffered a medical emergency, which left him out of work for two weeks. During that time, Vicky stepped up and not only took care of the entire family but also kept showing up for work, determined to provide and make sure no one went without.
Vicky’s story reflects the reality of many female farm workers, who work long hours in physically demanding jobs while balancing family and other responsibilities. Despite the hardships she faced, Vicky continues to show up for both her family and community, offering strength, care, and stability for those who depend on her.
