The People Behind the Harvest
All year long, farm workers labor under harsh conditions, perform backbreaking work, and receive little benefits and rewards for it all. They deserve to be recognized for everything they do to ensure that Americans have food in their pantries. They prepare crops, pick produce, work with livestock, and cultivate thousands upon thousands of acres of farmland. Without farm workers, we would not have the essentials necessary to survive. That is why September is now known as Farm Worker Awareness Month, a celebration of the contributions and sacrifices made by farm workers all across the country.
Voices, Power, and the Future
We provide resources and opportunities for allies to help advocate for equal rights and treatment of farm workers.
Last year, we sued the Trump Administration for lowering the Adverse Effect Wage Rates (AEWR), which lowered pay for farm workers nationwide. On August 26, 2026, we won the lawsuit, with a federal judge ruling that these wage rules are illegal. To learn more about the court decision, visit our AEWR page here.
Families, Rights, and Stability
Almost half of farm workers are undocumented and with that comes the challenges and fears that comes with having no legal status in this country. We offer comprehensive legal services in California and provide referrals to legal services organizations in other states.

Safe Fields, Strong Families
Everyone deserves to work in a safe environment without the risk of death. No amount of money is worth risking your life. However, we ask farm workers to face harsh conditions at the work place everyday, from extreme heat to exposure to deadly pesticides and much more. The UFW Foundation is committed to ensure workers are protected from these hazardous circumstances as we advocate for better working conditions and common sense reforms to ensure the safety of all workers. Farm Workers are essential
- There are more than 2.6 million farm workers in the United States today, almost half of whom are undocumented.
- Without immigrant farm workers, agricultural output would fall by $60 billion,
- The average income for farm workers are $20,000 to $24,999 a year and the average family incomes are $25,000 to $29,999.
- Thanks to farm workers, the United States agricultural industry is worth more than $1 trillion.
