Donald Trump should be ashamed for his executive action
this week on immigration, community members will contend

Community members, faith and union leaders, and the UFW Foundation will gather for a vigil at 4:30 p.m. on Friday outside the GEO Group's Mesa Verde Detention facility near downtown Bakersfield to say Donald Trump should be ashamed over the immigration executive orders he signed this week.

Friday’s demonstrators will observe that undocumented workers toil at low-pay jobs such as in the agriculture and hospitality industries, nursing facilities and caring for children in people’s homes. But instead of calling these workers who are so vital to key sectors of the U.S. economy by their names, President Trump and his supporters call them names: Illegals. Aliens. Lawbreakers.

They bring food to the tables of people across America and around the world. Into their care other Americans entrust their young children and their parents and grandparents when they are too feeble or infirm to care for themselves.

By targeting these immigrants and treating them like criminals, President Trump wants them to be ashamed for coming to this country and seeking work. But Friday’s protestors will ask President Trump and others who support his policies to look into their own hearts and ask themselves who should feel ashamed.

Who: The United Farm Workers Foundation, Faith in the Valley, Service Employees International Union Local 521

When: Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 at 4:30 p.m.
